The prices for health care have spiked over the past recent years, making it nearly impossible to afford necessary coverage. Many have lost coverage because they can no longer afford it, others have lost coverage because their employers can no longer afford it. Both face end of the year penalties for not providing coverage, or carrying year-round coverage; so it's really just a matter of which is the less expensive hardship. Should we be checking the statistic of how many people have decided to move to Canada in the last year?
We have recently seen in the media, covered by Fox16, that Meritus is shutting down and causing thousands of Arkansans to lose health insurance plans. Follow more of the story, here.
Regardless, the government funding Medicare program is available for those that cannot afford coverage. There are tax credits that are available, determined based off of your household income, and may drastically reduce your rates. The current enrollment period will begin coverage on January 1, 2016. If you are looking to apply, applications must be completed by December 15th, 2015. Visit www.healthcare.gov for the application and instructions.
